A new community group has formed to raise money for our swimming pool. “Pennies for the Pool – Keep Marengo Swimming” held its first meeting Monday, June 14th following the city council meeting. Twenty people were in attendance to show their interest in helping to raise funds to renovate the city swimming pool.
The lifeguards and pool manager, Jamie Lillie, are already getting started with fundraising. They will have t-shirts available on July 3rd and will also be selling glow in the dark necklaces. Others on the committee will be putting together information to hand out during the 3rd of July celebration to raise community awareness about the group’s efforts.
The community group will have all funds given directly to the city but kept in a separate pool renovation fund used exclusively to keep the current pool running and to complete the pool project. Decisions are being explored on renovating the existing pool or building a new one. All at the meeting were interested in keeping the same location and approximate size of the current pool.
If you would like to make a donation you can either mail or bring your check or cash to City Hall, 153 E. Main St., Marengo, IA 52301. If you are mailing a check, please write in the memo on the check that it is for Pennies for the Pool. All checks should be made out to the City of Marengo.
If you would like to help out with the fundraising efforts you can stop in City Hall and ask how to help or call (319) 642-3232.
