The rules of conduct are intended to provide pool patrons with a safe and enjoyable place to swim. Enjoy yourself and come back often.
IN THE EVENT OF ANY EMERGENCY, ONE LONG WHISTLE BLAST SIGNALS THE IMMEDIATE EVACUATION OF THE POOL.
Hours of Operation:
The Marengo Municipal Swimming Pool hours are 12:00 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The City of Marengo reserves the right to adjust hours at its discretion.
The pool manager will make the decision whether to stay open or not.
Everyone who enters the pool must pay, regardless of the intent to swim.
Pool Closings:
The City of Marengo reserves the right to close the pool at any time for any reason.
If the air temperature outside is less than 65 degrees or the weather conditions are unfavorable, the Pool Manager may close the pool until there is a break in the weather upon his/her judgment.
If there are less than five swimmers in the pool for 2 hours or more, the pool may close.
Food and Drink:
No food or drink may be brought into the pool.
All food and drink must be purchased at the concession stand and must remain in the picnic/pergola area.
Personal items are not allowed on the concession stand picnic tables.
Items not allowed:
Gum, tobacco products, electronic smoking devices, alcoholic beverages, weapons and glass containers of any kind, will not be allowed on the pool grounds. This includes bottles, containers, and goggles.
The use of tobacco, alcohol, controlled substances, or other intoxicants on pool grounds will result in a no trespass notice for one year being issued by the Marengo Police Dept.
Goggles made of glass will have the word TEMPERED on the lenses.
No goggles are allowed in the deep end.
Goggles will be asked to be removed before using the diving board or slide.
Floatation devices not approved by the US Coast Guard are not allowed. This includes inflatables, rings, lifejackets, mermaid skirts, etc.
Water wings will be permitted only when the user’s supervising companion is within an arm’s reach of the user.
Refunds:
No refunds nor rain checks will be given for daily admissions or season passes for any circumstances. This may include but is not limited to closures due to weather or disciplinary actions taken against a patron.
Supervision of Minors:
Lifeguards are responsible to ensure the overall safety of patrons at the pool not act as babysitters. Supervision of all minors by a responsible adult is strongly encouraged.
Children 8 and under must be supervised by a responsible person 14 years old or older, who must remain in the water with the child.
Pool staff reserve the right to refuse admission to and/or ask anyone to leave that they feel is not being properly supervised.
The supervising companion of a patron using water wings must be within arm’s reach of the user.
Any children not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper.
Pool Phone Use:
Arrangements for picking up children should be made before arriving at the pool. The telephone is for Emergency use only. This includes incoming calls.
Any personal calls for pickup or otherwise will be made by the person in charge of the guardhouse.
Lifeguards are not responsible for finding a patron to talk to their parents on the phone.
Allowable attire:
Proper swimwear is required for swimmers (suits/trunks).
“Street clothes” are not allowed to be used as swimwear. Street clothes include but are not limited to: denim or mesh shorts, jeans, or sweatpants.
Swim diapers are required for those children that are not toilet-trained.
Showers:
A thorough shower is required before entering the water.
Illness:
Anyone with a communicable illness will not be admitted to the pool.
Anyone experiencing diarrhea within the last 24 hours will not be admitted to the pool.
Bicycles:
All bicycles are to be parked in or close to the bike racks.
Horseplay, etc.:
Running, loitering, towel fighting, shoving or throwing is not allowed on pool deck or in the bathhouse area. Splashing, dunking or other "horseplay" is not allowed.
Spitting or nose blowing in the pool is strictly forbidden.
Profanity will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary actions detailed later in this manual.
In the pool:
Do not hang or gather around the ladders.
Do not hang or swim on the ropes.
Do not play with any rescue equipment.
Do not harass lifeguards.
NO DIVING IN THE SHALLOW END.
No flips from the side of the pool.
Deep End Requirements:
Each swimmer must be able to adequately swim for any lifeguard across of the deep end of the pool, in the north-south direction, before being permitted into the deep end.
Diving and free swim will be allowed in the deep end at the head lifeguard’s discretion.
Under no circumstances will diving and free swim be allowed together at the same time.
Diving will only be allowed to one person at a time, including parents holding children.
Play Structure:
The play structure is designated for our youngest patrons. Older children must stay clear.
Lounge chairs are not to be placed in zero depth areas.
Slide:
Patrons must be 48” tall.
The maximum rider weight is 300 pounds.
Non-swimmers are not permitted.
Riders must: Enter feet first. Lie Down. Cross arms. Cross legs. Do not sit up.
Riders must enter the slide in a sitting position and wiar for instruction from the attendant. Patrons must go down slide without assistance. There is to be no one in the plunge pool or diving well to catch a child.
No floatation devices including tubes, mats or life jackets are allowed.
No jewelry, zippers or rivets that could damage the waterside or cause injury to the rider are allowed.
Riders are to line up on the pool deck. One rider may be stationed on each stair landing and one at the top deck. Once the rider on the top deck enters the starter tub, the riders then move up one position on the tower.
No pushing, shoving, or running allowed.
No running, jumping, or leaping into the starter tub.
No launching down the waterslide using the grab bar or guardrail.
Leave the plunge pool promptly after entering.
Diving Board:
One person on the diving board at any time. Parents will not be allowed to dive with children.
Parents will not be allowed to catch children off the board.
Wait for area to clear before diving into the water.
Dive straight off the end of the board.
Exit the water at the nearest ladder.
No swimming under the boards or in the diving area.
No hanging under the boards.
No life jackets or other flotation devices allowed when diving from boards.
Pergola/Concessions:
Personal items are not allowed on the concession stand picnic tables.
No outside food or drink allowed into the aquatic center.
No food allowed on the pool deck.
Pop, water, power drinks and teas provided by the aquatic center are allowed on the pool deck.
After-hour or Off-hour Usage:
All patrons utilizing the pool facilities during hours outside of regular operation are subject to all rules and possible disciplinary actions listed in this manual. This includes those participating in lap swims, classes (aerobics, swimming lessons, etc.), or private pool parties scheduled through the City.
Interactions with Pool Personnel:
Pool personnel and City staff only are permitted in the Guard House and Concession Area.
Do not talk unnecessarily to the lifeguards while they are on duty.
Exit the water immediately as soon as you hear a long whistle blast.
Patron Discipline Rules:
Guards have the authority to enforce any violations of the rules.
All lifeguard instructions and directives are to be followed without harassment by all patrons, regardless of age.
The head lifeguard on duty will act as the “daytime manager” and shall have authority for enforcement of all pool rules at their discretion.
If a patron disagrees with the head lifeguard’s decision on discipline, they may request the pool manager to review the matter.
Violation of any rules may result in immediate suspension.
The pool manager or head lifeguard may skip any of the order listed below depending upon the severity of the incident:
The FIRST time a patron is suspended from the pool, it will be for one day.
The SECOND time a patron is suspended from the pool, it will be for one week.
The THIRD time a patron is suspended from the pool, it will be for the remainder of the season.
Refusal to Conform to Staff Order:
Any pool patron who refused the order of pool staff will be asked to leave the pool property and is subject to being banned from the pool for a time period determined by the Pool Manager.
Failure to leave the pool area may result in being trespassed from the pool by the Marengo Police Department.
Vandalism:
Anyone caught vandalizing or destroying pool facilities will be banned from the facility for the remainder of the pool season. This applies to pool patrons and pool staff.
Lost and Found:
There is a lost and found located in the guard shack.
Please contact any lifeguard if you have found something or are missing anything.
The lost and found items will be taken to Marengo City Hall once per week.
Any lost items at City Hall will be kept until the beginning of the next pool season, at which time they will be disposed of.
