ABOUT MARENGO

Why Marengo?

Marengo is the County Seat and home to the award winning Compass Memorial Healthcare clinic and hospital; the Iowa County court house; Gateway Park and Reserve; the Marengo Public Library - a Carnegie library; is part of the scenic Byways Tour; and has an industrial business park on the Interstate Railroad line,  which provides access to ALL North America markets by rail.

LOCATION:  Located just 7 miles north of Interstate 80 and 30 minutes from the metropolitan areas of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, Marengo offers a place to easily get away from the hustle and bustle of the "big city" - it's a place where golf carts and ORVs are an approved form of transportation.

OUTDOOR RECREATION:  Located within the city limits, Gateway Park and Preserve is Iowa County's best kept secret.  Great for the walleye and bass enthusiast, the park is open to the public for no-wake boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking and bird watching.  An arboretum, boat ramp, and bird blind are located on the property. A walking trail follows the shoreline of the lake 41-acre lake and 12-acre pond, and provides access to the Iowa River.
The unique charm of Marengo stems from the natural beauty of the Iowa River Valley, its historical architecture and small-town values.  The river banks of the Iowa River provide a wide variety of wildlife including bald eagles, hawks, songbirds, amphibians, reptiles, butterflies, dragonflies and more. Wildflowers provide cover, food and natural beauty to the area.

OTHER RECRATIONAL ACTIVITIES include:   golf, bowling, walking/bike trail, fitness centers, horse shoe/rolle bolle court, tennis/basketball court, kayaking, hunting and fishing.
If you consider SHOPPING, a recreational activity, you're in the right spot.  In addition to locally owned boutiques, Marengo is a no hassle, 15-minute drive to Outlets Williamsburg AND the Amana Colonies.
If quiet time and a good read are what you are looking for, the Marengo Public LIBRARY (a refurbished Carnegie library), is is wonderful place to spend your free time.
